Chive, Garlic
Chive, Gow Choy - -
Allium tuberosum, Allium odora, -
A hardy chive with mild garlic taste. Used fresh in salad, spring roll. Or
cooked in stir fries, or in soup.
A hardy perennial. Very easy to grow. Clump-forming.
Leaves are green, flat, about 10 inches long.
Start seeds early as they are slow to germinate.
Not very picky about soil, but does best on fertile, moist, well-drained
soil. Can also be grown in pots in your kitchen. Young flower spike and
its buds are edible, a delicacy in Chinese cuisine. Remove flower spikes
to direct energy to leaf production. |
