Stevia rebaudiana -
The leaves of this herb contains steviodide, which is 300 times sweeter
than sucrose (sugar).
Grows to 2 or 3 feet.
Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Mulching helps to keep the shallow root
system from drying out. It does well in a 10" container with mulch
over top soil.
Leaves can be crushed, or
dried and powdered, to be used as a natural sweetener. Best used in
tea/coffee/lemonade, or with berries, lemon, chocolate, ...
